GREEN LIVELIHOODS AND CLIMATE ACTION PROGRAM (GLCAP)
“True prosperity grows from the soil — when we care for the earth, we secure both survival and dignity.” — Deo Mbabazi founder COTI GLCAP supports rural and underserved communities in Uganda to adapt to climate change and build sustainable, green livelihoods.
The program uses a practical, community-based approach — combining nature-based solutions, hands-on training, environmental leadership, and local advocacy. It works with farmers, youth, women, and vulnerable groups to promote eco-friendly farming, renewable energy use, reforestation, climate education, and inclusive participation in environmental decision-making.
Under GLCAP we,
RESTORE ECOSYSTEMS AND PROMOTE ECOLOGICAL HEALTH through:
1. Plant Indigenous and Multi-Purpose Trees
2. Support integration of trees, crops, and livestock using agroforestry, intercropping, and organic farming methods that enhance soil health and water retention.
3. Training farmers in contour farming, mulching, cover cropping, and terracing to prevent erosion and sustain productivity on sloped or fragile land.
4. Mobilizing communities to restore local wetlands, riverbanks, and natural springs using vegetation buffers, fencing, and controlled grazing practices.
5. Facilitate workshops that explain how healthy ecosystems support agriculture, clean water, air, pollination, and protection from climate shocks.
6. Train local youth and farmer groups to act as eco-monitors who track deforestation, support reforestation campaigns, and lead public sensitization.
Under this program we train youth, women, and farmers to lead local environmental initiatives and facilitate peer-to-peer learning.
“When we invest in women and girls, we are investing in the people who invest in everyone else.”
